Lobos defeat San Diego State in OT

After spending a week covering the Legislature in Santa Fe, I was ready to photograph anything other than a politician. Saturday brought about an exciting game between New Mexico and San Diego State which went into overtime. The Pit was sold out for this one and no one left disappointed. I shot the entire game from one end of the court since my coworker Jim Thompson was also covering the game and it turned out to be a lucky move since a lot of the moments were happening towards me and the other photographer who was shooting for a blog. Bloggers man! They’re everywhere, and judging from everyone who was there last night, you would think we were covering the NCAA Tournament!

You definitely got the deep emotional part of the game which was really powerful that game.

Photojournalist Roberto Rosales (b. 1969) is a native of El Salvador. In 1980 he was forced to flee the violence during the country’s civil war. He moved to the USA where he attended school and began a new life. After graduating from the University of New Mexico, he returned to El Salvador where he taught his first workshops to local newspaper photography staffs. He returned to the states in 1998 and a landed a job as a staff photographer for the Albuquerque Journal. Currently, in addition to working on daily assignments for the Journal, he is pursuing a project in El Salvador documenting the daily lives of local fishermen around the Gulf of Fonseca.
